Friday's Funnies

Bingham has been ripping into his second birthday in full two year old glory. In honour of this celebrated day, he is the king (or princess) of Friday's funnies.

Lately every time I tell him something he replies with "What?"

k, I know, not so funny....the funny comes from the tone of voice. It's more like, "Are you crazy, Mom? What in the world are you thinkin', telling me this?"
**just in case your curious, the ink on his face and the decorated wall are from TWO separate events.

Friday's Funnys

I thought it might be fun to keep track of some of the funny things my kid say or do. Although some weeks I don't think my kids are so funny, so then it might be Friday's Frustrations. And then there are the really crazy weeks that it won't be funny or frustrating until Saturday or even Sunday...

Bingham:
  • mmmm, mmmm, mmmm, Baby! (ok, this was a little coached, but still dang cute)
  • my heart (as he slaps his chest. We've been memorizing scripture and actions really help Soni, and apparently Bingham too, cause he does this part whenever we're practicing.)

Sonya:

  • I'm as naked as a girl can be. (more of a song than a statement, and the inspiration for this post)

  • Bingham can talk! (Bingham has been talking for a solid year now, but I guess Soni is just starting to understand him...it's like his first word all over again)

  • Do I have to go to the disappointment room? (After I told her I had a dentist appointment...it took me a minute to make the connection, at first I thought it was some strange discipline room at her preschool)

Austin:

  • Who made this mess!?!? Can I build on it? (He has been VERY into having a clean house lately, but I guess the little boy won this time)

Eve:

  • Those cookies were disgusting! (Can you imagine what she said about dinner?)

  • Logically there is a high possibility that he can't speak technically. (Eve loves to justify or explain whatever is going on with the words logically, technically, literally, or even metaphorically. Austin has picked up on these words, but doesn't always use them correctly...and this was Eve's response to an incorrect usage.)
Here's a picture of Joie's quilt. Why so funny you ask? This is only half of the squares I have cut up. Yup, I have enough for 2 large quilts.

k, maybe it's only funny to me.

Reclaim the Morning

When Melissa suggested the Biggest Loser Challenge, I thought it would be a great idea. I need to lose my winter weight (don't ya know your supposed to gain a little in the winter to help keep warm) and start feeling better. Then I realized (k, I'm a little slow here) that I would actually have to change some of my lovely, relaxing, indulgent winter habits if I really wanted this end result. So with the biggest loser challenge hanging in the air, I am working to get back to feeling healthy again. One step at a time though....don't rush me.

To start, I want to reclaim my mornings. I am not a morning person, but have always wished I was. Morning is a beautiful thing to witness...if you can keep your eyes open and mind somewhat focused on it's wonders. Plain and simply, I need to go to bed at a decent time, or morning just hurts. Then I slug around, don't eat right and miss the opportunity of quiet time, and exercising without kids crying and fighting because I'm ignoring them. Even though I have always felt that sleeping in equals peace and happiness, my body and spirit tell me differently.

So, before anything else, I need to have things back in order. Be consistent with my bedtime and let that help align the rest.

The Dusty Path

Since Soni started preschool, it has become painfully obvious that Bingham will soon follow. Although he as a few years to go it has got me thinking about what in the world I will do when he does...*tear*.
The obvious choice would be to do whatever I need to do to renew my teaching licence. I've been casually looking online to try to figure out how to do this, and then yesterday I really got serious, even waiting on hold for a half hour to get some of my questions answered. So, it seems it won't be to hard to do, although it will take a bit of time; the hardest...or at least scariest part is getting back into it all...being professional isn't really something I do naturally. Then there is the math. I love math, that's why I chose the subject, but it has been soooo long since I have really had to solve any serious problems....can I even find the path that leads to that dusty corner of my brain?

Last night I got a call from the Jarman's. What do you know, they needed some help with a math problem. In my mind I was thinking, "Great, I'm going to be humbled in front of my super smart niece and nephew...this must be the Lord's way of telling me I need to stay home forever".

Turns out, I DID know how to do it, and was greatly surprised at how familiar, and fun the dusty path was. (Perhaps, it could be noted here, that after I hung up the phone there was a small dance and some flexing of muscles.) Of course, it wasn't without doubt, and I laid awake in bed to figure out why 10 wasn't the answer (see Mary's post)...it only took a minute, and I slept in peace.

My degree is for teaching grades 6-12, but a challenging 5th grade problem is a good place to start. Thanks Meg and Jeran, and I still need lots of practice to refresh my memory, so feel free to call me anytime!

Snowy Day

Just watching Bingham get his boots and hat on...going out in the storm only to come back in a couple minutes since he hasn't learned to put on his jacket and gloves. When Soni gets home from school I dress them both up and turn them loose.

The non-post

Have you ever had your kid do something so stinkin' cute that you can't wait to tell your friends and fam about it? And then when you go to tell, you realize that it would break confidence with that child, and so you keep it to yourself, but still can't help but smile...or even giggle when you think about it?

Jury Duty

Yesterday I woke up early to exercise and read, so proud of myself for getting it done before the kids woke up and things got crazy. Then I remembered I had jury duty...ugh. Originally it was scheduled for Friday, but when I called in they had postponed it until Tuesday...unfortunately, I didn't put it on my calendar and sure enough, I forgot.

A little stress, but I figured I could call on a friend who has kids in the same grades as mine and she could take Soni to preschool and keep Bingham for me. Well, I couldn't get a hold of her at all, and other options for such a last minute favor were nonexistent. I started to wonder what would happen if I showed up at court with Bingham in tow...

Just then Phil called home from work to see how things were going and when he heard my woes he told his boss he was taking a sick day and came home. Just a side note...it was his first "sick day" EVER. I was very grateful he was so willing to pick up the slack when I clearly dropped the ball.

I went in and it turns out it was a case involving someone soliciting a minor online...ever seen "To Catch a Predator"? It was scheduled to last the rest of the week. Despite the stress it would cause, I really wanted to stay and be on the jury...in fact I got picked, but was quickly dismissed by the defense. I guess they didn't think an educated, SAHM, with a husband working in the Federal Pen was a good juror...even though I tried to convince them I was. Maybe I was too eager. I guess it all worked out for the best since I got home in just enough time to get things ready for Activity Days and leave again for Eve's volleyball.

It was a pretty crazy day and when I finally went to bed all I could think about was the defendant's face lurking behind a computer somewhere...truly he may have been innocent of all he was charged with, but the fact remains that he was into some pretty bad stuff to get to that point. It was frustrating to see my chance in this opportunity just snatched away so quickly. I know I sound biased, but I believe I would have acquitted the man if guilt wasn't proven, but if it was...

yeah, I guess I'm not a very good juror.

Food, fun and new beginnings...maybe.

The kids go back to school tomorrow and I am so sad Christmas break is over. We seriously had an awesome two weeks just enjoying the time without all the pressures of a schedule. We ate very well....

...and had a lot of fun. The weather has been so warm we have spent a lot of our time outside...in fact, it was a little too warm and I was getting concerned. Then it snowed today and all feels right again.

We had such fun New Year's. Soni and Bingham went to bed on time and Eve and Austin stayed up for the party. They started off playing Duck, Duck, Goose with Angel....
...until Angel got tired and went to bed.

Then we played a LOT of UNO...until Austin reached his limit.

Then watched a movie until midnight. Since the weather was so nice we decided to try sleeping out on the tramp.

Eve survived.

Austin survived...

Bingham was pretty upset we didn't invite him.

Now for the New Year's resolutions...I believe in going big or going home, and that any progress towards a lofty goal puts you in a better place than you were the day before. Perfection is for eternity...today we are just on our way.

After that speech I bet you thought I would post my goals....well, not yet...still working on that. What's the rush? I have all year :-)
