When two vowels go a walking....

We went for a little walk by the resavour. Soni designated me as her hiking buddy (since Becky and Grandpa weren't there). She was chattering away for a good twenty minutes before she made this observation:

"Hey Mom, we're like two vowels, you do the walking and I do the talking."

Lucky Me

My body felt numb and I could hear the blood pounding in my ears. Fear and embarrassment fought for control of my limbs, and just as I was about to grab Bingham and make a run for it, I heard a sweat voice behind me ask, “Can I help you?”
It’s been fun this year to have Bingham as my buddy when all the kids are in school. We have fun little conversations as we clean, cook and run errands. He really is a smart little kid, and usually makes me laugh. Yesterday we were in town running a few errands and ended up at Home Depot looking for some seeds. Right next to the seeds were some kitchen sinks on display. Next thing I know Bingham is standing there with a silly grin on his face pointing to a yellow pool of liquid in the lowest sink (envision a Bingham sized urinal).
When the sales lady asked if we needed help and I realized she hadn’t seen the mess, (she was too busy talking about what a cute little boy I had) I seriously thought about making a hasty exit, but my conscience got the better of me and I confessed and even cleaned it all up myself…AND finished my shopping before I left.
Knowing me, had I made a run for the door, I probably would have forgotten the seed packets in my hand until they grabbed me for shoplifting. Just call me lucky.

A Woman on the Edge

This blog title came drifting through my head last night as I woke up and found Bingham sound asleep hanging head first off our bed. I usually hear him get out of bed and come down the hall...but thanks to daylight savings time (yep, gonna blame it on that) I was completely messed up.

Yes, we missed sacrament meeting Sunday morning, even though I had been complaining about the time change all week; I think my deep inner self rebelled and caused me to forget to change our clocks Saturday night. It didn't matter much when we did though, we still all woke up late on Monday and barely got the kids to school on time.

Then, of course, it's so nice and light outside we all stay outside later in the evening, which means late dinner and later evening routine and late bedtime....which only leads to another late morning start. I'm not much of an activist, but I have been googling possible groups that I could get involved with to right this evil wrong....or maybe I should just take a nap.

Back Scratchin'

We are a back scratchin' family. You want to tell some one you love them...scratch their back. You want to say sorry...scratch their back. Excited...well, you get the idea. I also learned early on, the calming effect a good back scratch can have on a wiggly child. With Austin, this was one of the main tools we used to get him to settle down in church. But, after a while, it wasn't enough; he began sticking out his arms to have me scratch them too. My first thought was..."they're right there, scratch them yourself" ...but he liked it so much, and who am I to argue with a relaxed and quiet child.

Then along came Bingham.

Oh yeah, he loves a good back scratch, and yes, it does quiet him down in church, but just like Austin...he's no longer satisfied, and asks me to scratch his arm....pits. The little turkey, he doesn't even squirm, and strange enough, it works...like putty in my hands...until he hits puberty.

Deep thoughts by Eve Woolston
